LFU is nuestra casa, our home. LFU is the place for Latinx students at BHSECQ to learn about their cultures, discuss our issues, feel empowered to overcome the many challenges we face  and celebrate our logros (achievements) en comunidad.

I joined LFU to be part of a community, and my experience has been more than that. Through all of our meetings and events, I've been able to learn so much about myself and connect more to my culture and my identity..

La Fuerza Unida comes together to advocate and learn about the Latinx community. La Fuerza Unida has taught me about my own community, and how I can contribute to making a change.

I joined LFU seeking a space where I can represent and gain more knowledge about my culture while also delving into the circumstances the Latinx community faces today. LFU has offered, and will continue to be a welcoming environment where members can learn about one another's cultures, including the challenges and successes that are associated with them.

I joined LFU to join a comunity, what I didn't expect is that it would push me to get out of my comfort zone and support me along the way. Each success becomes an achievement for the whole club and it feels like a family.

Hi! My name is Angelina (she/her) and I am from the Dominican Republic. LFU is important to me because it creates a safe environment for Latinx students in the community. As well as providing students with knowledge about Latinx people and their culture.

I joined LFU because I’m around a lot of Latinx culture in my life outside of school- mostly with baseball and friends- and I’d like to learn more about the culture.

Dario Haxia '24

I am Albanian, and I have no Hispanic or Latin American heritage. Despite that, I still joined LFU for the opportunity to learn about different heritages and cultures in order to understand the perspectives of people around the world.

Gabriela León Ramirez '24

I am a second generation immigrant from Ecuador. Growing up, I was surrounded by not only my family, but my friends and outside connections were all of latino descendance. Afterwards, though, I realized I wanted to learn more about my culture and be able to do more for it. Joining LFU has made me feel a revived sense of belonging and an even better understanding of myself and others.

Priscilla Lozano '26

pl734q@bhsec.bard.edu

I am of Peruvian descent, and a first-generation American. I joined LFU because I was drawn to the idea of a reunion of Latinos all in one club. This group has been so welcoming and fun to be in. Being in LFU has felt almost like a part of a large family.

Emily Cruz '26

The reason that I decided to join LFU (La Fuerza Unida) is because I wanted to have a place in school where I could express my pride in my heritage. Since my first LFU meeting, I knew it was a place where I could express myself along with hearing stories from others about their heritage.

LFU has helped me find a community of BHSECQ students who shared many familial and life experiences with me. It also allowed me to share advice with my younger peers and help them take advantage of opportunities they might have not have otherwise known about!

An important thing I learned as a member of La Fuerza Unida is the importance of community because whether it was through dancing, workshops, or events, we were all learning together and growing as people.

Having recently moved to the U.S., I never thought I would find a place where I could share my culture until I came across LFU. I am glad to be a part of a community that supports each and every single one of its members and gives them the resources to succeed.

It has been such an amazing and fun experience to have this opportunity, being able to spend time with others and learn to express ourselves through art. To me, LFU means to share the art of culture and what it's like to be a proud Latino.

LFU allows me to embrace my Mexican culture and connect with other Latinx students at BHSECQ. This club has built a safe place to address our issues and overcome them unitedly. Furthermore, LFU provides security and a sense of community to all our members to embrace our cultures, advocate for our rights, and allow us to amplify our voices.
